Getting around in Rome

Posted By admin

Once you’ve arrived and unpacked your bags in your new hotel, make sure you plan out your trip around Rome logically. Keep in mind all of the tourist destinations that you’re hoping to see, and try and locate some of them together to save time, and money through transport that you’re definitely going to use.

Buses in Rome usually take a more casual approach when it comes to running on time. It’s been said that the bus system is fine, as long as you’re not in any hurry and don’t mind a detour or two along the way. The buses also run on an honour system, but police do patrol the buses so it’s best not to try and cheat the system unless you want a fine handed your way, which could just ruin your vacation!

Taxis in Rome are white, so they are easily noticeable. There is generally a fee for carrying luggage, and sometimes there are fixed fees from certain city points in Rome, to tourist destinations which is often a bonus due to traffic of both people, and cars.

There is also the danger of unlicensed taxis, so make sure you’re getting in a white car with specified taxi status. Limousines also attempt to pick up people and cheat them out of a fair bit of money, due to the fact that some people not used to the Italian taxi service, are unsure of the rate in ratio to travel.

Traveling by foot in Rome is a great way to experience local culture, as you’ll often see, smell and hear things that you wouldn’t normally encounter by traveling in transport all the time. By walking throughout Rome, you might run into a quaint restaurant that makes the best pasta you’ll ever taste, or a whole new area of the city that is breathtakingly beautiful with its architecture. So don’t completely rule out the use of your feet!
